Kakha Chikovani: The Georgian Dream's position on the war in Ukraine is shameful; it's clearly visible that they lean more toward Russia; the European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee's report on Georgia is a signal that we are not alone

The current government's position on the Ukraine-Russia issue is shameful, - this was stated by Kakha Chikovani, a member of the "Freedom Square" party, on PalitraNews' program "Day's Newsroom."

According to Kakha Chikovani, from "Georgian Dream's" rhetoric and actions, it is evident that they are on Russia's side rather than Ukraine's.

"This war truly should never have started, but there is one 'but' - who started this war and what position does the so-called Georgian government hold today regarding this war. The current government's position on the Ukraine-Russia issue is shameful. Their rhetoric and actions not only make us think, but it is clearly visible that their side is more oriented toward Russia than toward Ukraine. The sympathy that Georgia should have shown toward Ukraine is not properly expressed today. The Georgian population has an absolutely different position, and in my opinion, it holds exactly the position it should. As for the war, Russia made a very big mistake when it decided that Ukraine should be annexed by such methods as it is doing today," - stated Kakha Chikovani.

In his assessment, Parliament Chairman Shalva Papuashvili's statement that the government "pursued a policy of peace in the most difficult environment, when those eager for war, through external pressure and internal disruption, tried to drag Georgia into the arc of war's fire" is "ridiculous."

"There is no explanation for this; it's simply ridiculous. This rhetoric has not changed for 4 years already. During these 4 years, they have neither presented a document nor brought any supporting evidence. Accordingly, this is demagogy and nothing more. As for the world and its security architecture, of course, this architecture has changed and everything will be completely rearranged, but first of all, this war must be ended. This war has also shown the West its weak points. This will lead to results that ultimately will contribute to the strengthening of the West and Europe as a single strong organism. Where are we in this situation and where will we be after the war ends? The contours outlined today do not promise anything good. As long as this ruling force remains in power, we will remain in the dark part of the world. Ultimately, this war will definitely end with Ukraine's victory," - stated Chikovani.

Regarding other issues, he also commented on the draft report of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee on Georgia, which notes that "Georgian Dream" has not only halted Georgia's European integration course but has factually reversed it.

According to Kakha Chikovani, the civilized world objectively assesses the situation in Georgia and knows exactly what is happening in the country today.

"This is yet another signal to Georgian society that we are not alone, Georgia has not been abandoned, and they continue to help Georgia, considering Georgia as a member of their family. For 'Georgian Dream,' it doesn't matter whether this criticism exists at all, because they have chosen a policy of isolation and opinions coming from the West have no value to them. They have already chosen a vector and are moving in that direction. Our task is to gather our forces as soon as possible so that we can send 'Georgian Dream's' government home soon and return Georgia to the path of democratic development," - stated Chikovani.

According to him, the ruling team's statements that they protect human rights are pure manipulation.

"This is exactly what is called 'the tongue has no bones' - they say whatever they want. What human rights are they talking about when people are arrested for standing on the sidewalk? What human rights are they talking about when so many young people are sitting in prison completely illegally? What rule of law are they talking about? Perhaps selective rule of law exists, but even those laws have their own issues. The goal should not be the rule of law, but the supremacy of justice - and there is no justice in this country anymore; they have buried it," - stated Chikovani.

In addition, he discussed the opposition's plans and explained that the negotiations taking place between parties do not imply a classic type of unification, but rather rules of conduct aimed at achieving a strategically set goal.

"Opposition unity means something different to us. Opposition unity does not mean forming into one party. It's not like that. Opposition unity means that we act in coordination toward the goal that is set," - stated Chikovani.
