We share this tragedy with you, but we also know that you have not lost this war; in reality, Russia has lost it and has failed to achieve its war aims, - this is how Georgia's fifth president, Salome Zurabishvili, assesses the fourth anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
According to Salome Zurabishvili, peace cannot exist until Russia recognizes its own borders.
"Dear Volodymyr, dear Ukrainian friends, on this day, February 24, I want to share with you this very heavy moment that marks four years of an unfinished war. During this time, you have shown how brave the Ukrainian people are, how resilient you are, and how you can endure everything that Russian imperialism has inflicted on your country. We share this tragedy with you, but we also know that you have not lost this war; in reality, Russia has lost it and has failed to achieve its war aims. Four years later, this so-called great empire has failed to bring you to your knees, and this is a very great success. I wish you that peace comes very soon, but true peace that respects the will of the Ukrainian people, respects Ukraine's sovereignty and its territorial integrity.
For us Georgians as well, this date is very significant. On February 25, 1921, Russia attacked Georgia, just as it attacked Ukraine on February 24, 2022. So February is the month when Russian imperialism seems to come alive, but it will have an end. I believe that along with the end of Russian occupation in Ukraine, we all must witness the end of Russian occupation elsewhere - in 'South Ossetia,' the Abkhazia region, Transnistria, and everywhere Russia exceeds its borders, because peace cannot exist until Russia recognizes its own borders.
Glory to Ukraine!" - stated Salome Zurabishvili.
