It is laughable what the reason for the ban was. I do not know a single citizen in our country who would take this seriously, - Mikheil Kavelashvili stated about the banning of the TV companies - Imedi and POSTV by Britain.
As Mikheil Kavelashvili noted, the banning of TV companies is a continuation of the chain that has been carried out against Georgia since the war in Ukraine began.
"The accusation that Imedi and POSTV were harming the mood in Ukraine and chaos was created as a result, I do even not know what to compare it to, although it is one thing that we see this with a smile, but the other is that we know why they are doing this, this is a continuation of the chain that has been carried out against our state, state institutions, government, ordinary citizens, and our national interest as a whole since the war in Ukraine began. This is one of the components, because these television stations are quite popular and have the trust of our society, they thought a lot and took this step," - said Mikheil Kavelashvili.
According to Kavelashvili, the majority of the Georgian population knows why Imedi and POSTV are being sanctioned, they are prepared for such steps, but it is necessary to respond to this.
"I think the answer of Imedi should be clear to everyone. The main thing is our audience, the main thing is our population, our citizens and their assessments. We all see how the media space works today and Imedi is one of the leading television stations, POSTV is also increasing its ratings and other television stations as well. When the government of another country sanctions media companies operating in Georgia, this is a continuation of what we talked about and I think our society is so informed that it is not surprised, although it is necessary to react, it is necessary to respond. We know why this is being done, the main thing is that the majority of the Georgian population knows why all this is happening, is prepared for such steps. The BBC film also had the same purpose, to cause chaos here, to mislead our citizens, and this process is ongoing. We should not be surprised," Mikheil Kavelashvili said.
