Unfortunately, the situation in Georgia is deteriorating and it is happening very quickly, - MEP Rasa Juknevičienė said while presenting the report on Georgia to the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee.
“I cannot say anything better than the Commission’s 2025 report on the situation in Georgia. The 2025 report on Georgia is described as the worst ever prepared for a candidate country in the history of enlargement. Also, according to the conclusions of the European Council of 19 December 2024, Georgia is now a candidate country in name only,” - said Rasa Juknevičienė.
According to her, the new draft report on Georgia focuses on recent events.
“We note with deep disappointment that the “Georgian Dream” has not only stopped Georgia’s European path, but has actually changed it to the opposite. There has been a setback in 9 priorities, which were a condition for granting candidate status. Despite statements that EU integration remains a strategic goal, senior officials and government-affiliated media are waging a systematic anti-European campaign. This report highlights the importance of imposing targeted sanctions against Bidzina Ivanishvili and those responsible for democratic backsliding, electoral fraud, human rights violations and the criminal prosecution of political opponents,” said Rasa Juknevičienė.
