Salome Samadashvili: The National Bank is today effectively "in the pocket" of "Georgian Dream" - any movement in the banks and financial system will trigger an economic collapse tsunami - Turnava has established herself as a recidivist

Natia Turnava, through her own statements, has established herself as a law-breaking recidivist, — this was stated by Salome Samadashvili, one of the leaders of "Strong Georgia - Lelo," in response to the statement made by the President of the National Bank, Natia Turnava, regarding the sanctioning of "Imedi" and "POSTV" by the United Kingdom, according to which "commercial banks are obliged to act in accordance with the norms established by the Constitution and legislation of Georgia."

Salome Samadashvili stated on PalitraNews' program "Free Studio" that "any movement" by the authorities toward banks and the financial system "will trigger an economic collapse tsunami."

"We remember her actions in the Partskhaladze case were completely outside Georgia's legislative framework. That is why we were the initiators of her resignation; at that time, a corresponding rally was held with this demand. Turnava's this statement is a continuation of that line — the line contrary to Georgia's law and our Constitution — that the National Bank is pursuing. Today, the National Bank is effectively in the pocket [of 'Georgian Dream']; it is a politically controlled instrument. We remember what happened in the Partskhaladze case: the entire state system covered for him; in the case of one person, it is easier to create greenhouse conditions, give him a chance to hide his property, evade sanctions, but when we are talking about television channels that must continue functioning, they will have to sign contracts, pay salaries — I find it very difficult to imagine how this regime can continuously create such conditions for its own media outlets. I have no doubt they will try everything, but I think their capabilities are limited.

As for the banks and the financial system, I can say one thing: any movement that touches the foundation on which our very weak economy stands will, I believe, trigger such an economic collapse tsunami that I doubt this government has the resources to commit such stupidity," — stated Salome Samadashvili.

For information: On February 24, the United Kingdom imposed sanctions on the television companies — "Imedi" and "POSTV." According to the British government, sanctions were imposed on "Imedi" and "POSTV" as organizations "involved in spreading Russian disinformation." The sanctions imposed by the United Kingdom include asset freezes, prohibition of financial services for managing assets, and director disqualification. The sanctions document notes that "Imedi" and "POSTV" "deliberately spread misleading information to their audience — primarily in Georgia — about Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine."

Furthermore, the President of the National Bank of Georgia, Natia Turnava, stated regarding the sanctions: "Commercial banks are obliged to act in accordance with the norms established by the Constitution and legislation of Georgia."
