Irakli Kobakhidze says Georgian government will not make any changes in diplomatic relations with Britain in response to British sanctions

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said that the Georgian government will not make any diplomatic changes with Britain in response to the British sanctions, including the expulsion of the ambassador.

As Kobakhidze noted in response to a journalist's question, the ambassador himself is in a tragic situation and the Georgian government should not further aggravate this situation. According to the Prime Minister, Georgia remains in a unilateral friendly relationship with Great Britain.

"The ambassador himself does not decide anything, the ambassador is in a tragic situation. I do not know how he himself views all this, but from the perspective of an objective evaluator, his situation is tragic. The decision on the infringement of the fundamental right to freedom of the media was made by his hand, and he represents Great Britain - basic human rights originated in England, and the representative of this country has to make a statement on the infringement of freedom of the media, basic freedom, in Georgia. His situation is tragic, we, of course, should not aggravate the tragedy of this situation. Just as in other cases, we remain in the regime of unilateral friendship, Great Britain is dear to us as a state and, accordingly, its people. The same applied to Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine, in this case we must also remain in the regime of unilateral friendship, based on the fact that Great Britain is dear to us as a state with a distinguished history and the British people are dear to us. As for the summoning of the ambassador, this is not just a form of diplomatic demarche, it also has a practical meaning. We requested information sharing regarding what the sanctioning of the two TV companies was based on - zero information, zero facts regarding this. This once again speaks to the tragic nature of this situation," Kobakhidze said.
