From today, amendments to the Law on Labor Migration have come into force, according to which employment/self-employment of foreigners in Georgia will only take place in compliance with relevant regulations.
According to the Ministry of IDPs from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Protection, in order for a foreign citizen to be legally employed or to carry out labor/entrepreneurial activities, including remotely, he or she must obtain the “right to labor activity”.
According to the ministry, “permits for the “right to labor activity” are issued to foreigners by the State Employment Promotion Agency.
"The process of issuing the right to work is completely electronic. Persons receiving the service must upload the necessary documentation to the portal https://labourmigration.moh.gov.ge/.
The right to work is issued for a specific position and a specific employer for a period of up to 1 year.
If a foreign citizen evades the norms specified in the Law on Labor Migration, this will result in fines for both the employee and the employer, including financial penalties for self-employed foreigners," reads the information.
