“The Opposition Alliance has been formed,” stated Nika Gvaramia, one of the leaders of the “Coalition for Change,” to journalists after the meeting of part of the opposition parties.
According to Gvaramia, announcing the agreement on the “Opposition Alliance” is “a great honor and very joyful” for him. Gvaramia said that the “Opposition Alliance” agrees on a unified direction and actions.
Gvaramia noted that part of the agreement is a code of conduct that is very clear and based on the principle of accountability for violations of specific rules of behavior.
“This was not short consultations, nor were they easy consultations. They have been going on for a long time. In the meantime, many of us ended up in prison, some got out, some are still in prison for now, and some — very important people for Georgian society, both politicians and journalists and others — are not.
We are not creating a consultative format; we are creating unity together for victory. We agree on a unified direction, unified actions. We are not renouncing our political identities, we are not creating a single list — there is no discussion about that now, and we don’t even know whether there will be such discussions in the future — but we are creating unity of action. Part of this agreement is a code of conduct that is very clear, that is based entirely on the principles of joint action, on the principles of equality, and also on the principle of accountability for violations of specific rules of behavior,” Gvaramia stated.
