Supreme Court did not accept Mzia Amaglobeli’s cassation appeal for consideration

The Supreme Court of Georgia did not accept for consideration the cassation appeal of Mzia Amaglobeli, co-founder and director of “Batumelebi” and “Netgazeti.” This information is reported by “Netgazeti.”

Amaglobeli’s lawyers requested the annulment of the judgment of the Kutaisi Court of Appeals, the issuance of an acquittal, and the review of the legality of several procedural rulings.

According to “Netgazeti,” in parallel, the prosecutor in the case, Tornike Gogeshvili, requested in the cassation instance the tightening of the sentence and the aggravation of the charge, including consideration of liability under Part 1 of Article 353¹ of the Criminal Code.

Mzia Amaglobeli was detained at night on January 11, 2025, in Batumi after she stuck a sticker with the inscription “Iphitseba Sakartvelo” (“Georgia is being sworn in”) on the outer facade of an auxiliary building of the Batumi City Division, but she was released shortly afterward. A few minutes later, already on January 12, Mzia Amaglobeli was detained for the second time in front of the Batumi City Division building under criminal procedure, and on January 13, 2025, the Prosecutor’s Office charged her under Part 1 of Article 353¹ of the Criminal Code, which pertains to assault on a police officer.
