Salome Samadashvili: The environment for European diplomats in Georgia is more hostile than in Russia - as for Iran, no matter who is in power today, everyone would have to take a very cautious position

“The environment for European diplomats in Georgia is more hostile than in Russia,” stated one of the leaders of “For a Strong Georgia – Lelo,” Salome Samadashvili, on PalitraNews’s program “360 Degrees.”

According to Salome Samadashvili, Georgia is not simply in an antagonistic relationship with the European Union but is “actively insulting the leading states of Europe.”

“No one in Europe talks to Georgia anymore, because Georgia has a government that is not simply in an antagonistic relationship with the European Union, but actively insults the leading states of Europe. What kind of relationship does Georgia’s government have with Germany today? — They insult the German ambassador every day; Germany is their target every day. Who is the main player in Europe today from the point of view of the transatlantic future and security? Everyone sees that Germany is one of the most important players in the world system and within Europe. If you don’t approach them, if you cannot talk to the German government and insult them every day, this contributes to Georgia being unable to effectively protect its own interests.

One of the European diplomats told me that such a hostile environment for European diplomats as the one created by ‘Georgian Dream’ does not exist even in Russia. They emphasized the low-level insults and abuse. There is a class in diplomacy that even Russia observes. In Georgia, the environment for European diplomats is more hostile than in Russia,” Salome Samadashvili stated.

As for Georgia’s relations with Iran, Salome Samadashvili said that no matter who is in power today, in the current situation everyone would have to take a very cautious position.

“As for positioning toward Iran, the freedom of maneuver for Georgia’s government is limited. No matter who is in power today, everyone would have to take a very cautious position. I’ll tell you directly: we do not have a wide area of freedom here,” Salome Samadashvili stated.
