Today, there is no clear precondition for dialogue from the side of Georgian Dream, but the fact remains that all parties must face reality, said Giga Parulava, a member of parliament and one of the leaders of the “For Georgia” party, regarding the statement made by Lelo - Strong Georgia.
According to Parulava, Lelo needs to be more specific in its statement.
“Regarding Lelo’s statement, we think more clarity is needed: with whom, on what issues, from what position, and through whose mediation should dialogue take place. Today, there is certainly no precondition for dialogue from Georgian Dream’s side, but the fact is, all parties must face reality. Dialogue will definitely happen, but at the right time, with the right actors involved, and of course, taking into account the interests of the people and the country,” Parulava said.
He emphasized that currently, there is no precondition for dialogue from Georgian Dream.
“Both the opposition and the ruling side must face reality. Lelo’s statement needs more clarity, not just a general call for parties to engage in dialogue. Dialogue is necessary, but it must be clear; then they should present a concrete plan. In the current reality, dialogue is inevitable, but it must happen at the right time, with the right actors involved, to give this statement more sharpness,” Parulava added, noting: “It is unfortunate that Lelo gave up its parliamentary mandates.”
For context, Lelo - Strong Georgia issued a statement calling for the overcoming of mutual confrontation and the start of responsible political negotiations between Georgian Dream and opposition parties. As Irakli Kupradze stated at a press conference yesterday with party members, a peaceful, democratic, and state-oriented resolution to the political crisis would be an agreement to hold new, free, and fair parliamentary elections. In parallel, he noted, the release of political prisoners is necessary to reduce political tension in the country.
