Five months have passed since the shamefully failed attempt at a terrorist revolution. In response to this shameful process that has failed once again, instead of listening to statements consistent with the best practices of democracy and justice, condemning what happened, clearly distancing themselves from violence, and making appropriate calls, we see complete deafness, indifference from the European Union. This silence is not accidental. Its deep reason is the crisis in democratic values, - the Speaker of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, said while presenting his report to the legislative body.
According to him, the constant crisis, constant pressure, and constant attempts at unrest serve one goal - to make Georgia lose its political maneuvering space amid the continuous attacks.
“ Five months have passed since the shamefully failed attempt at a terrorist revolution. In response to this shameful process that has failed once again, instead of listening to statements consistent with the best practices of democracy and justice, condemning what happened, clearly distancing themselves from violence, and making appropriate calls, we see complete deafness, indifference from the European Union. This silence is not accidental. Its deep reason is the crisis in democratic values, the breakdown of the international liberal order and the growing inability of the European Union to cope with its own internal challenges. However, in parallel with this, they are still trying to weaken the Georgian government, restrict genuine freedom of speech and prevent the possibility of expression. This is done openly and openly. We see examples of this every day, sometimes with cynical “congratulations” on the National Flag Day, and sometimes with baseless, unjustified attack.
The constant crisis, constant pressure and constant attempts at unrest serve one goal: against the backdrop of attacks, to make Georgia lose its political maneuvering space, become unable to concentrate on the strategic goal of territorial integrity and de-occupation, and find itself in a cabalistic attitude. It is a civilizational tragedy that the current Brussels policy towards Georgia is being read in this direction. It is impossible for the European Union to survive with such a policy. The European Union that we chose, the Europe that we are co-creators of, stands on completely different values and roots. We know this because we know where history began, what it went through, and where it came from. Therefore, we do not stand on one leg, as some would like, trying to force our way into someone else's house, but we stand as a nation living in its own house, distinguishing between good and evil, and firm in its values and beliefs. We are a nation that has carried out the Christian faith for centuries alone, in a hostile environment, cut off from the Christian world, and we have come to this day. We will have no choice but to give up our identity, beliefs, and uniqueness. This is our homeland, our land, the footsteps of our ancestors, and the future of our children," Papuashvili said.
