Nacho Sanchez Amor - Ivanishvili decided: I don't want to be part of the West, I prefer to stay with Russia for my business interests - the EU is doing nothing in relation to Georgia - we must act

The EU is doing nothing in relation to Georgia, MEP Nacho Sánchez Amor said during a debate on human rights in Georgia at the European Parliament’s Human Rights Subcommittee.

Ivanishvili decided: I don’t want to be part of the West and I prefer to stay with Russia for my business interests. One key element that I always repeat is that the Georgian Dream carefully concealed its agenda of abandoning the European path. This is the main issue, because if the Georgian Dream had said publicly - we want to abandon the European path - then even in the event of fraudulent elections, the results would have been completely different,” said Nacho Sanchez Amor.

According to him, “the EU is doing nothing in relation to Georgia.”

“This issue about diplomatic passports is a joke. Everyone has a second passport. I don’t know what measures could be taken to prevent these people from coming to Paris for Fashion Week or visiting their children at expensive universities. I was in Georgia a year ago and we told people then that the EU was ready to impose real sanctions on visas. Then, apparently, it turned out to be a legal problem and it didn’t happen. I have a question for the EU External Action Service: why didn’t we propose sanctions to the Council regarding human rights? Don’t tell me there is no unanimity. I know that you do not have unanimity and you do not have the voice of Hungary. But this will be a political message that Georgia is completely isolated and only Hungary protects it. You must do this. We must act," the MEP noted.
