Judgment in Elene Khoshtaria’s case to be pronounced tomorrow

A judgment in the case of Elene Khoshtaria, the politician and leader of the Droa party, accused of damaging Kakha Kaladze’s election banner, will be pronounced tomorrow, March 24.

The hearing is scheduled for 11:00 at the Tbilisi City Court. Judge Giorgi Arevadze will pronounce the judgment.

He adjourned the trial until the defendant’s final statement, although Elene Khoshtaria has not attended any of the hearings. The defense is also not entitled to a closing statement.

As Khoshtaria’s lawyer, Elene Maghlakelidze, told InterpressNews, the detained politician does not intend to appear at tomorrow’s hearing either.

For information, law enforcement officers arrested Elene Khoshtaria on September 15 of last year.

Elene Khoshtaria was charged with damaging Kakha Kaladze’s election banner under Part 1 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertains to damaging another person’s property, causing significant damage. The offense is punishable by one to five years in prison.

In the case, Elene Khoshtaria was granted a 5,000 GEL bail as a preventive measure, which she refused to pay, after which the politician was arrested.

On September 14, Khoshtaria wrote the words “Russian Dream” on Kakha Kaladze’s banner near his election headquarters. She herself shared the relevant video on social media and stated that he was expressing solidarity with Megi Diasamidze, who was arrested for damaging Kakha Kaladze's election banner and later released on bail.
