Batumi City Council member from “Strong Georgia - Lelo”: Georgian Dream has begun tailoring the Batumi Boulevard master plan to its own interests

“Georgian Dream has started adapting the Batumi Boulevard master plan to its own interests - the influence of Rizhvadze-Chikovani is now being replaced by the Tamazashvili-Tsintsadze clan,” said Vazha Darchia, a member of Strong Georgia - Lelo in the Batumi City Council, during a briefing.

According to Darchia, this is a dangerous trend, as “Ivanishvili’s team can amend the document at any time.”

"Georgian Dream has begun tailoring the Batumi Boulevard master plan to its own interests. The first changes are being introduced into the approved document. While dozens of restaurants were demolished and small entrepreneurs had their businesses shut down in the name of this master plan, today the Batumi City Council is planning to include the restaurant ‘Sanremo’ within the master plan.

Today, the authorities claim that enforcing the document is a priority, yet they seem to forget that the same concept explicitly states that the construction or existence of permanent structures in the coastal zone is not allowed. (It was precisely for this reason that similar structures were demolished along the coastline.) However, as it turns out, for a donor of ‘Georgian Dream,’ ignoring the master plan is possible. We are referring to Ednar Papunaishvili, who has donated to ‘Georgian Dream’ multiple times.

This means that the hundreds of thousands of lari spent from the Batumi City Hall budget to develop the master plan served not the interests of the boulevard, but the goals of ‘Georgian Dream.’ We directly state that this is a dangerous trend, and at any time Ivanishvili’s team can amend the document and allow the emergence of any facility on the boulevard, even if it contradicts the concept. We have been talking about this issue for months - that the influence of Rizhvadze-Chikovani is now being replaced by the Tamazashvili-Tsintsadze clan,” said Vazha Darchia.
