When making a historic choice, it would have been hard for anyone to imagine that 35 years would pass and Georgia, emptied by emigration, would still be on the brink of existence - Georgia has more friends in the democratic world today than at the dawn of independence, which is good, but this fight is ours to win, - Salome Samadashvili, one of the leaders of Lelo-Strong Georgia, writes on social networks regarding the referendum held on March 31, 1991 on the restoration of Georgia's independence.
As Samadashvili notes, after the March 31 referendum, “we have voted a lot of ‘yes’.”
“When we made this historic choice, it was hard for anyone to imagine that 35 years later, the Georgian state, emptied by emigration, would still be on the brink of existence.
Since that day, we have voted a lot of ‘yes’: ‘yes to democracy,’ ‘yes to human rights,’ ‘yes to Georgia’s membership in the European Union.’
And now, our country is being deprived of the choice of millions of citizens, of several generations.
Nobody’s call, nobody’s visit, nobody’s intervention, and political assessment are the main thing. The main thing is you, the citizen, who are both the heir, the guardian, and the one who will become suffering if this choice is taken away from you.
Today, Georgia has more friends in the democratic world cheering for it than at the dawn of independence... That's good, but this fight is ours, it's ours to win," Samadashvili wrote.
