“When we talk about Irakli Kobakhidze, I can boldly say that he is the best Prime Minister in the history of Georgia. Of course, when it comes to corruption, we do not shy away from responsibility. Before Irakli Kobakhidze became Prime Minister, to put it mildly, the situation regarding corruption was far from good. At the same time, we must not forget that we have not shielded anyone from accountability,” said Levan Machavariani, a member of the Georgian Dream parliamentary faction, from the Parliament podium, responding to criticism from the “For Georgia” faction directed at Kobakhidze.
Machavariani emphasized that the principle of Georgian Dream is that corruption should not exist in Georgia, and in this regard, no position or membership in the team grants immunity.
“Even though it was politically completely disadvantageous for our team, all cases were made public. You can see the fight against corruption. When former high-ranking officials are mentioned, it is both a subjective and objective double blow for us, but we are a responsible government and have not shielded anyone, despite the political cost to our team.
Since Irakli Kobakhidze became Prime Minister, all government decisions have been fully transparent. He changed the practice of direct privatization of property. He established the Government Efficiency Department, whose function is to detect and eliminate corruption. He proposed Mamuka Mdinarezh to Parliament as the head of the State Security Service – and to talk about Mdinarezh’s capabilities, we would go very far. You can see how effectively the SSS works against corruption.
Also, on Kobakhidze’s initiative, the procurement module has been digitized, and from July, all government procurement will fully move to the digital module, eliminating the possibility of anyone imposing conditions on anyone.
Absolutely everything is being done to fulfill Irakli Kobakhidze’s promises – within just a few years, Georgia will enter the top three countries in terms of low corruption.
Kobakhidze’s call is that if you see any signs of corruption, share them with us immediately, and there will be an immediate response. If there is no immediate response, you can inform journalists that no action was taken on the information provided. I promise that every report will receive a response,” Machavariani stated during the session.
