Nikoloz Khatiashvili: Ambassadors of friendly countries are usually summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and branded as enemies for criticism, but the real interference in sovereignty was the statement by Iran’s ambassador, which went unanswered - at minimum, the ambassador should have been summoned

It is very surprising that the authorities did not react to the statement of Iran’s ambassador; at minimum, the ambassador should have been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, former diplomat and “GEOCase” researcher Nikoloz Khatiashvili stated on the “Resume” program on PalitraNews.

According to Khatiashvili, the statement by Iran’s ambassador Ali Mojani was an interference in Georgia’s sovereignty.

“In the statement of Iran’s ambassador, there was talk as if Georgia had agreed to certain conditions with the United States and as if they [Iran] had found out about it. That the authorities did not react is very surprising. At minimum, the ambassador should have been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. When we see criticism from our friendly countries, their ambassadors are summoned to the Ministry for such criticism, often branded as enemies and accused of interfering in our sovereignty. This statement was real interference in our sovereignty, and there was no response. At minimum, the ambassador should have been summoned and asked for an explanation — why he made such a statement and what his intentions were,” Nikoloz Khatiashvili said.

Asked how much danger Georgia might face in the context of this war, Khatiashvili said the risk is unlikely.

“Considering that the ‘Georgian Dream’ party has good relations with Iran, Georgia is not viewed as a hostile state. I think it is unlikely that Georgia would face any kind of threat. Of course, nothing can be entirely ruled out, given that there is a war in our region, but politically, and given the current relations, I do not think Georgia faces any threat,” Nikoloz Khatiashvili said.
