Mikheil Kavelashvili - Slovakia is Georgia's newest ally and friend - our countries are united by a common vision based on peace, stability and protection of national interests

Our countries are united by a common vision, which is based on peace, stability and protection of national interests. Against the backdrop of acute global challenges and geopolitical risks, mutual support and close cooperation between countries with common values and approaches are gaining special importance, - Mikheil Kavelashvili stated at the joint briefing held after his meeting with the President of Slovakia, Peter Pellegrini.

According to him, at the meeting they discussed the broad potential of sectoral cooperation, which concerns trade and economic relations, investment topics, tourism, defense and security, culture, education, youth issues and other areas.

“I am pleased to be on an official visit to the Slovak Republic, a country with a rich history, which is Georgia’s newest ally and friend. I thank Peter Pellegrini for the invitation, warm hospitality and meaningful, interesting dialogue. Slovakia has always been and remains a strong supporter of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, which I and all of Georgia sincerely appreciate.

Our countries are united by a common vision based on peace, stability and protection of national interests. Against the backdrop of acute global challenges and geopolitical risks, mutual support and close cooperation between countries with common values and approaches are of particular importance. Continuing high-level meetings is of great importance for maintaining the positive dynamics of bilateral cooperation between our countries. It is in this direction that we discussed specific plans and priorities for the near future.

Also, we discussed the broad potential of sectoral cooperation, which concerns trade and economic relations, investment topics, tourism, defense and security, culture, education, youth issues and other areas. It is welcome that since January of this year, air flights have started between our countries, between Kutaisi and Bratislava, which will bring our peoples even closer and there will be more tourists in both Slovakia and Georgia.

During our meeting, we emphasized that in a complex and rapidly changing geopolitical environment, the potential of Georgia as a key link in the Middle Corridor is gaining even greater importance, and my colleague also treated this very understandingly. Because we know our role in the South Caucasus. The Middle Corridor issue without Georgia is, of course, unthinkable, and my colleague also noted that it is a great potential for our country and our neighbor countries. The peace policy that we are pursuing is precisely proof that these opportunities are growing and more and more countries are interested in paying more attention to this region. We have talked about this and more and more efforts will be made between our countries to further utilize this potential that Georgia has in the form of the middle corridor," Kavelashvili said.
