Protopresbyter Giorgi Zviadadze: The Holy Synod is acting very professionally; every detail is carefully considered to ensure the expanded council is held with dignity - unity is preserved

Protopresbyter Father Giorgi Zviadadze stated that the Holy Synod is “carefully considering” every detail to ensure that the expanded council, where the patriarch will be elected, is conducted with dignity.

Speaking to journalists at the Sioni Patriarchal Cathedral, Father Giorgi emphasized that the Synod approaches matters professionally.

“The Holy Synod is, of course, acting very professionally. It takes everything into account regarding procedures. Every detail is carefully considered so that the expanded council is, naturally, held with dignity,” the clergyman said.

He also noted that the Holy Synod is united.

“What I would like to emphasize with particular respect is that the Holy Synod has maintained unity, mutual respect, and an approach based on church legislation and canonical rules. This ensures that all decisions are made in unity and with mutual respect. If anything needs clarification, consideration, or modification, it will, of course, be decided collectively by the Synod’s bishops,” Zviadadze added.

The priest noted that “there is no reason for public concern regarding this matter.”

Additionally, he reiterated that there is no need for a patriarchal testament when the patriarch has already appointed a successor during his lifetime.

“When the patriarch appoints a successor during his lifetime, there is no need for a testament. A testament may relate to appointing a successor, but if the patriarch has already appointed the successor while alive, a testament is not necessary.”
