Tengiz Sharmanashvili on the expulsion of Afgan Sadigov - It did not happen on the basis of any negotiations, it happened on the basis of Georgian legislation

[The expulsion of Afgan Sadigov] did not take place on the basis of any negotiations, it took place on the basis of Georgian legislation - if the Strasbourg Court has any questions, the Georgian state will clarify this relationship with the Strasbourg Court, - Georgian Dream MP Tengiz Sharmanashvili stated when talking about the expulsion of Azerbaijani journalist Afgan Sadigov from the country.

According to him, during administrative proceedings, if a person has committed a misdemeanor, the Georgian state is authorized to expel a person and prohibit him from entering the country for a certain period of time.

“[Afgan Sadigov’s expulsion] was not based on any negotiations, it was based on Georgian legislation. During administrative proceedings, if a person has committed a misdemeanor, the Georgian state has the right to expel a person and prohibit him from entering the country for a certain period of time. He is neither the first nor the last person to pay this penalty.

If the Strasbourg Court has any questions, the Georgian state will clarify this relationship with the Strasbourg Court,” said Tengiz Sharmanashvili.

When asked whether the Azerbaijani authorities were informed about Sadigov’s expulsion, Sharmanashvili noted that “expulsion from the country does not occur on the basis of informing another state.”

“Expulsion from the country is not carried out on the basis of informing another state. Expulsion from the country is carried out on the basis of Georgian legislation to the country from which the person entered Georgia. This is a normal procedure that was carried out,” the MP said.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs detained Azerbaijani journalist Afgan Sadigov on administrative charges. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, he was detained for insulting a police officer on a social network. As a punishment, he was fined 2,000 GEL, expelled from Georgia and banned from entering the country for 3 years.
