We have expressed our readiness to continue the high-level dialogue and further deepen cooperation in various fields - Georgia firmly supports peaceful, constructive coexistence in the region and new initiatives. If necessary, we are always ready to make our positive contribution to the development of these relations, - Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated at a press conference held with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who is on an official visit to Georgia.
As Kobakhidze noted during his speech, Georgia and Azerbaijan have repeatedly "proved that we are reliable and responsible partners".
“First of all, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Mr. Ilham Aliyev for coming to Georgia. He is a dear friend of Georgia and his coming to Georgia is a special honor for each of us. I am pleased to have the opportunity to host you in Georgia and discuss issues of bilateral cooperation and the processes ongoing in the region. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you once again for your condolences on the death of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II, and for the sympathy expressed by you personally and the Azerbaijani people. We particularly appreciate this support.
Also, Mr. President, for your personal efforts and your personal involvement. I would like to thank the members of the delegations, ministers, government representatives, our ambassadors, who play a special role in the development of these relations.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your firm support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity, which is naturally of particular importance to Georgia. Since the restoration of independence, Georgia has always been, is and will be a firm supporter of the national interests, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
During today's meeting, we discussed in detail issues related to both bilateral relations and the future of the South Caucasus region as a whole.
In this context, we would like to once again welcome the ongoing peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. As you know, Georgia firmly supports peaceful coexistence, constructive coexistence in the region. As well as new initiatives. If necessary, we are always ready to make our positive contribution to the development of these relations. We are ready to promote dialogue and the peace process.
Naturally, the cooperation of our countries, the countries of the South Caucasus, creates new prospects for our region as a whole. We are observing global political processes, and these changes further increase the importance of the Middle Corridor, including the Black Sea and the South Caucasus, as a strategic space.
Our countries, as bridges connecting the Asian membership, play a key role in terms of connectivity. In this context, we attach particular importance to the development and modernization of transport and logistics infrastructure. We, Georgia and Azerbaijan, have repeatedly proven that we are reliable and responsible partners, including in international energy and transport projects.
We also discussed the prospects for trade and economic cooperation during the meeting. We are pleased that Azerbaijan remains one of Georgia's largest trading partners. We expect that these relations, our trade and economic relations, will further deepen, including cooperation in the direction of increasing investments.
We expressed our readiness for the continuation of the high-level dialogue and further deepening of cooperation in various fields. I am confident that in the future our cooperation will develop even more, for the benefit of our people, our countries. President Aliyev's visit will play a special role in this. Once again, I would like to thank you for coming to Georgia. Also, of course, special thanks for the efforts that you personally make in deepening and developing bilateral relations between our countries," Kobakhidze said.
