Peter Magyar: I would be very happy to visit you in Tbilisi and I look forward to working with you - we will not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries - this is not our style

“We will not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries and will not influence elections in your country or in North Macedonia—this is not our style,” said the leader of the “Tisza” party, Peter Magyar, which won Hungary’s parliamentary elections, in response to a question from Rustavi 2 during a press conference.

Specifically, when asked about his plans regarding relations with Georgia, whether the new Hungarian government would continue cooperation with Georgia, and whether it would maintain close relations with the Georgian government, Magyar responded:

“In general, I would like to say that the fact that Viktor Orbán’s government had close relations with a particular country does not mean that Hungary’s relations with that country will worsen under a ‘Tisza’ government. However, I can say that if relations between Hungary and a specific country were poor, they will now improve. I believe it is in everyone’s interest to work together peacefully to achieve economic prosperity and development.”

According to him, he is looking forward to working with Georgia.

“I would be very happy to visit you in Tbilisi or elsewhere and I look forward to working with you. Once again, we will not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries and will not influence elections in your country or in North Macedonia. This is not our style, and I do not think it is our role—or that of any European leadership. Everyone is elected to support their own people and help them develop,” Magyar noted.
