From July 1, plastic bottles will be banned in public catering establishments

According to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, the ban on providing beverages to customers in plastic bottles by public catering establishments remains in force, and the regulation will come into effect on July 1, 2026.

The Ministry has issued a special statement regarding the dates for implementing regulations developed to reduce plastic consumption.

The Ministry explains that, as of April 1, 2026, the following are prohibited: the production (except for export purposes), import, and/or placing on the market of plastic forks, knives, spoons, sticks, plates, straws, drink stirrers, as well as food containers/cups and their lids made of expanded polystyrene (EPS). It is also prohibited, within public procurement, to purchase plastic cups, containers, and beverages in plastic bottles up to 3 liters.

From July 1, 2026, public catering establishments will be prohibited from supplying ready-made food to customers using single-use plastic food containers and cups. Additionally, they will be prohibited from providing beverages to customers in plastic bottles.

From February 1, 2031, the production (except for export purposes), import, and placement on the market of beverages in plastic bottles will be prohibited. The ban will not apply to drinking water in containers of 3 liters or more, and other beverages in containers of 20 liters or more.
