Giorgi Kacharava: The relationship that Orbán had with the Georgian government simply cannot continue - that era is over, Hungary has changed and will act according to European values

“The relationship that Orbán had with the Georgian government simply cannot continue; a different person is coming and there will be different relations,” said international security and relations specialist and conflict analyst Giorgi Kacharava.

Speaking on the PalitraNews program “Resume,” Kacharava noted that relations between Georgia and Hungary will develop to the same level as Georgia’s relations with other Central European countries.

“Relations will probably develop to the level that Georgia has with other Central European countries. There will be normal relations within certain frameworks and formats. Hungary is a member of NATO and the European Union, so relations will exist within that framework, as well as within the OSCE and others. There will be normalization of relations, and I do not think anything extraordinary should be expected from this relationship,” said Giorgi Kacharava.

Regarding Hungary’s position on sanctions, Kacharava said that Hungary will in this case align with the position of the majority of European countries.

“I think Hungary will take the position of the majority. There will not be the special stance that Hungary had during Orbán’s time. That era is over, Hungary has changed, and its position will also change—it will normalize in line with European values and act accordingly,” said Giorgi Kacharava.
