“This is not an ordinary case; it concerns the organization of a contract killing motivated by financial gain, and the individual who carried out the murder has already received a guilty verdict in two court instances,” stated the prosecutor in the Levan Jangveladze murder case, Levan Vefkhvadze, during the court hearing.
He is currently delivering his closing argument in court, which consists of 350 pages.
The prosecutor is reviewing the evidence presented in court against the Mikadze brothers and Giorgi Jokhadze. Vefkhvadze is also evaluating witness testimonies and describing the motives behind the planning and execution of Jangveladze’s murder.
According to the prosecutor, the Mikadze brothers had a business dispute with Levan Jangveladze, after which they planned the murder.
In his closing speech, the prosecutor also discussed how Gelа Udzilauri, who has been convicted of the murder, disposed of the weapon used in the crime and a phone with a Polish-registered number, through which he maintained active communication with Giorgi Jokhadze.
“The case was not easy to examine, either emotionally or legally, but beyond emotions, important circumstances were revealed.
Your Honor, the prosecution promised to present reliable and mutually consistent evidence that would prove the defendants’ guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, and this has indeed been achieved.
This is not an ordinary case; it involves the organization of a contract, profit-motivated intentional murder, and the perpetrator has already been convicted by courts of two instances... The investigation presented all possible evidence to the court,” Vefkhvadze stated.
He also reviewed witness testimonies referring to a meeting between Jangveladze and the accused former Prosecutor General, Otar Romanov-Pkhakaladze.
For the record, the investigation accuses brothers Giorgi and Davit Mikadze, as well as Giorgi Jokhadze, of organizing the contract killing of Levan Jangveladze.
Giorgi Jokhadze is also charged, together with Giorgi Kachkachashvili, with the illegal group acquisition of firearms.
Gelа Udzilauri has been convicted for the contract, profit-motivated intentional murder of businessman Levan Jangveladze and the attempted murder of Gia Chaduneli. He has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
Within the same case, Sandro Tsivtsivadze has been convicted for the illegal sale of firearms and sentenced to 8 years in prison.
Former Prosecutor General Otar Romanov-Pkhakaladze is also charged in this case. He has been charged under Article 25/109, subparagraph “n” of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which refers to organizing a contract, profit-motivated intentional murder.
This crime carries a sentence of 16 to 20 years or life imprisonment.
Otar Romanov-Pkhakaladze is a Russian citizen and has been declared internationally wanted.
