Delegation of the Weimar Triangle countries meets with NGO representatives and the opposition

A delegation from the Weimar Triangle countries is meeting with representatives of non-governmental organizations and the opposition.

As reported, representatives from the opposition spectrum attending the meeting include members of Lelo – Strong Georgia, For Georgia (Gakharia), and the Opposition Alliance.

According to Grigol Gegelia, one of the leaders of Lelo – Strong Georgia, this is a very important meeting.

“We see that the European Union is interested in positively resolving the crisis in Georgia, changing the anti-democratic situation, and achieving a state in which the democratic rights of the Georgian people are protected. Therefore, meeting with those individuals who directly shape policy toward particular countries gives us a strong opportunity to make the voice of protest heard,” Gegelia stated.

According to Zurab Girchi Japaridze, one of the leaders of the Opposition Alliance and the Coalition for Change, the meeting will focus on the current situation in Georgia.

“At the meeting, we will discuss the situation in Georgia. As a representative of the alliance, I plan to speak about the alliance’s plans, how we assess the situation, and how we see a way out... I think the key issue is mobilizing citizens and convincing them that only a large number of people can defeat this regime—if we all stand united,” said Zurab Japaridze.

For the record, members of the Weimar Triangle countries’ delegation currently visiting Georgia include: Niklas Wagner, Director of the Political Department for Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia at the German Federal Foreign Office; Brice Roquefeuil, Director of the Continental Europe Department at the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs; and MichaƂ Giergion, Deputy Director of the Eastern Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Department at the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to the Government Administration, the Weimar Triangle delegation has also met with the Head of the Administration, Levan Zhorzholiani.
