Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia: Migration Department officers detained 53 foreign nationals - deportation procedures are underway

As part of the fight against illegal migration, employees of the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia conducted special immigration control operations in Tbilisi, Zugdidi, Kobuleti, and Batumi. As a result of these comprehensive measures, 53 foreign nationals were detained, including citizens of Kenya, Uganda, India, Turkmenistan, Philippines, Cuba, Jordan, Russia, Turkey, Ghana, Zimbabwe, and Ethiopia, the ministry reported.

According to the agency, during the operations, specific locations and various types of facilities were inspected in order to identify foreign nationals residing in Georgia without legal grounds.

“It was established that the detained individuals were staying in the country in violation of the requirements set by the Georgian Law ‘On the Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons.’

Currently, the detainees are being held at the Migration Department’s temporary accommodation center. Relevant procedures are underway to deport them from the country,” the statement reads.
