Lasha Parulava: Banning parties is a lie and hypocrisy… as for Tsotne Ivanishvili, Bidzina Ivanishvili is trying to present his son as his successor, getting us used to hereditary rule in the country

According to Lasha Parulava, a member of the “United National Movement,” the process of banning political parties is “a lie and hypocrisy,” and the ruling party is merely manipulating procedures.

“They are masters of lies. At the beginning, Ivanishvili derailed the ‘Trump Tower’ project, just as he damaged Georgian-American relations. What we are seeing now is not foreign investment - a group of local mini-oligarchs is building a skyscraper under a franchise with their own finances. Tbilisi will get a building labeled ‘Trump Tower,’ but no real investment will enter the country,” Parulava said on the PalitraNews program “Day's Newsroom,” commenting on reports that The Trump Organization plans to implement the Trump Tower Tbilisi project with local partners.

He also claimed that the business groups involved - “Bloc,” “Archi Group,” and “Biograph Living” - have no connection to free enterprise and are fully aligned with the political camp of “Georgian Dream.”

“They have nothing to do with free business; these individuals are entirely merged with the political camp of ‘Georgian Dream’… The original Trump Tower project, which was genuinely being built in Batumi and whose foundation was personally laid by Donald Trump, was sabotaged. Now they are telling us that in a space that should have been recreational - ‘the lungs of Tbilisi’ - a Trump Tower will be built. Not only will investment not come in, but all indications suggest that no one intends to invest in Georgia,” he added.

Regarding other issues, Parulava commented on the frequent public appearances of Tsotne Ivanishvili at events organized by the youth wing of “Georgian Dream,” stating that Bidzina Ivanishvili is presenting his son as a political successor.

“He is gradually getting us used to the idea that leadership positions in this country will be inherited. This is the ‘Chorvila model’ that Ivanishvili is offering us. We are no longer a free country; we are part of an authoritarian camp. This was Ivanishvili’s goal - democracy no longer exists. Political parties and civic associations are being abolished. His team has carried out a constitutional coup,” Parulava said.

He further added that public perception among “Georgian Dream” supporters increasingly views Tsotne Ivanishvili as his father’s successor, which he described as deeply problematic for Georgia’s democratic future.

Parulava also responded to the ruling party’s decision to submit a new constitutional lawsuit to ban certain political parties, now including the “Federalists.”

“In reality, ‘Georgian Dream’ cannot accept that its narrative is losing ground and is trying to push the banning of the opposition onto the agenda. There is already a case in the Constitutional Court - several months have passed. Now the review deadline is expiring, so they are withdrawing it and planning to resubmit it. This is another act of hypocrisy. If they intend to ban anyone, we are not afraid - we are here, and nothing will change with our banning. Our struggle will continue to the end.

This whole process is a lie and hypocrisy. They submitted the lawsuit - how many months have passed? The Constitutional Court’s deadline to begin review expires in about a month and a half, and no concrete steps have been taken. This is all a technical maneuver: they withdraw the case and then resubmit it. Meanwhile, they keep recycling the same narrative of ‘Nationals vs. Georgian Dream,’ without realizing that the Georgian people simply want to return to their homeland. Look at the regions - you can hardly find young people there. Who is responsible if not Ivanishvili?” Parulava stated.
