Kaja Kallas – Georgia shows no signs of reversing its democratic backsliding - the ministers had a clear message that Georgia needs to change course

Georgia shows no signs of reversing its democratic backsliding, EU foreign affairs chief Kaja Kallas said after a meeting of EU foreign ministers.

She said the ministers had a clear message that Georgia needs to change course.

“Georgia shows no signs of reversing its democratic backsliding. The ministers had a clear message that Georgia needs to change course and, of course, a sincere engagement in the human rights dialogue would be a sign that they [Georgian Dream] want to change course,” Kallas said.

Kallas also noted that the ministers agreed to send an EU civilian mission to Armenia before the June parliamentary elections, which would “strengthen the country’s resilience against massive disinformation campaigns and cyberattacks.”

The EU High Representative stated that Azerbaijan remains an important partner in energy and connectivity issues, noting that "we want to deepen our ties and will soon resume negotiations on a new bilateral cooperation agreement."
