According to finalized data, as of November 14, 2024, Georgia’s population totals 3,929,581.

The information was released by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

According to the agency, 52% of the population (2,048,577 people) are women, while 48% (1,881,004 people) are men.

“Based on finalized data, as of November 14, 2024, Georgia’s population amounted to 3,929,581, which is 0.4% higher than the preliminary figure (3,914,000) published in June 2025. Women make up 52% (2,048,577), while men account for 48% (1,881,004). The share of women is relatively higher in Tbilisi and Kutaisi at 54%, while lower - at 49% - in municipalities such as Keda, Khelvachauri, Kharagauli, Sagarejo, and Marneuli.

According to the census results, 62% of the population (2,442,231 people) live in urban settlements, while 38% (1,487,350 people) reside in rural areas. Excluding Tbilisi, the share of urban population is highest in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara (67%), largely due to the population size of Batumi. The share of urban residents is relatively low in regions such as Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Kakheti, Racha-Lechkhumi, and Kvemo Svaneti, where it stands at 24%.

The largest age groups in Georgia are 35-39 (7.6%), 10-14 (7.4%), and 30-34 (7.2%). It is also noteworthy that women significantly outnumber men in the 85+ age group, where the number of women is 2.6 times higher.

According to the 2024 census, 1,331,485 people live in Tbilisi, accounting for 34% of the country’s total population. The regions of Imereti (510,741) and Kvemo Kartli (441,630) rank second and third, making up 13% and 11% of the population respectively.

Georgia’s 2024 population and agricultural census was conducted between November 14 and December 31, 2024, covering the entire territory of the country except the occupied regions. In line with international methodology, the census included all permanent residents of Georgia, as well as foreign citizens and stateless persons residing in the country. The reference moment for population counting (the critical moment) was set at midnight between November 13 and 14.

Data collection was carried out electronically using modern technologies in two stages: the first stage (November 14-23, 2024) used a self-enumeration method (CAWI), while the second stage (November 29 - December 31) used computer-assisted personal interviews (CAPI). Due to high public interest, self-enumeration was extended throughout December.

Additionally, due to potential weather-related difficulties in high-mountain and hard-to-reach areas during November-December, census activities in municipalities such as Mestia, Kazbegi, Lentekhi, and parts of Akhmeta and Dusheti were conducted earlier, in September 2024. Preliminary results - including population by region, municipality, urban/rural settlement, and gender - were published at the end of June 2025,” the statement reads.
