According to Bishop Zenon of Dmanisi and Agarak-Tashir, he has his own preferred candidate for the Patriarchate.
As he told journalists, everything will depend on how the Synod session unfolds.
“Everything depends on the process itself that will take place at the Synod. Of course, I do have my own candidate. The outcome will reflect the nature of the process and the decisions made by the bishops.
As for the age limit, my position has been that it could be lifted through a vote, since there is no canonical basis preventing this,” Bishop Zenon stated.
For reference, the Holy Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church is set to select three candidates for Patriarch today. The Synod session at the Patriarchate of Georgia is scheduled to begin on April 28 at 12:00.
The issue of electing a Patriarch arose after the passing of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II, on March 17. Ilia II was buried on March 22 at the Sioni Patriarchal Cathedral.
