“Eurobureaucrats must change their unfair attitude toward Georgia! Ambassador Herczyński’s statement is clearly arrogant when he threatens the Georgian people that we will return to a dark, civil war period - I cannot call this anything other than an arrogant statement,” said Georgian Dream MP Levan Machavariani when speaking to journalists about the summoning of EU Ambassador Pavel Herczyński to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to him, “Eurobureaucrats must change their approach.”
“Eurobureaucrats must change their unfair attitude toward Georgia. It is precisely this unfair attitude that is reflected in the arrogant statements and actions of Mr. Herczyński and Mr. Fischer, which they have been making for a long time. In the case of Herczyński, it is disappointing that while previously he was only attacking ‘Georgian Dream’ and the government, this time he has started attacking the state as a whole and the Georgian people.
Eurobureaucrats must change their approach - either they must accept that they cannot replace ‘Georgian Dream’, neither through elections nor through revolution, which they have attempted several times, or we must wait for the awakening of European people, as happened in the United States. The United States rejected exactly the same distorted ideology that these Eurobureaucrats are spreading; it rejected the illegal, uncontrolled migration that Eurobureaucrats are promoting; it rejected the harmful policies they are pursuing. Accordingly, European people should follow the example of Americans, and these unelected bureaucrats must be replaced by those who truly value European principles and values.
Herczyński’s statement is clearly arrogant when he threatens the Georgian people that we will return to a dark, civil war period. I cannot call this anything other than an arrogant statement,” Machavariani said.
For context, the meeting between EU Ambassador to Georgia Pavel Herczyński and Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili took place on April 27.
The ambassador was summoned in connection with his earlier statements.
As a reminder, EU Ambassador Pavel Herczyński stated in Brussels at the European External Action Service, during the opening of the documentary photo exhibition “Georgia in Focus,” that Georgia is no longer on the right trajectory. According to him, “the government has chosen an alternative model of authoritarianism and is distancing Georgia from the European Union.”
“Georgia stands at a crossroads. The country’s future is not yet written, but what is decided in the coming weeks and months will determine whether Georgia belongs to the European family based on democracy, rule of law, and human rights, or whether it will return to its dark past. My main message to the Georgian people is: do not lose hope. We must not allow Georgia and the wonderful, warm, hospitable Georgian people to return to the dark times of violence, civil war, poverty, hardship, and corruption. This is not the future they deserve. As soon as the authorities express willingness to cooperate with us, we will do everything to help Georgia become a member of the European Union,” Herczyński said, as cited by "Netgazeti".
