Irakli Kobakhidze: Our army has always been and remains the main guarantor of Georgia’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity

“Today is a special date for our country—35 years ago, on April 30, 1991, alongside the restoration of independence, the foundation of our modern Defense Forces was laid with the first conscription. Since then, this day has become a symbol of Georgian military spirit and state resilience,” said the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, during a speech at an event in Vaziani marking the 35th anniversary of the Georgian Defense Forces.

According to him, the Georgian army has always been and remains the main guarantor of the country’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

“Our army has always been and remains the main guarantor of Georgia’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. Since its establishment, the Defense Forces have honorably defended the freedom of the homeland in every battle. At the same time, Georgian soldiers, alongside their partners, have fought with dedication in various parts of the world for global peace and security. Through your professionalism and courage, you have earned the highest international recognition and the great trust of our partners.

Today, with sorrow and deep respect, we remember the heroes who fell for the homeland. I bow before the memory of those who gave the most precious thing—their lives—for Georgia’s unity and for peace in the world. Their sacrifice is an inseparable and eternal part of our country’s history,” the Prime Minister noted.

According to the head of government, today the country’s Defense Forces are institutionally stronger than ever.

“We have a General Staff that meets the highest modern standards, as well as regional commands and special units. Our key priority—military education and the training of future generations—is served at a high professional level by the National Defense Academy and the Cadet Military Lyceum.

Today, when the world and our region face numerous complex challenges, our government continues to pursue a consistent policy of peace. Peace is the foundation for the country’s unity and development. At the same time, the Georgian army is always ready to defend our land and ensure the safety of our people. Our state always relies on your strength and professionalism.

Dear conscripts, the oath you have taken today is a confirmation of the great responsibility you have assumed for protecting the security and stability of our country. I believe your service will become the foundation of the lasting peace necessary for our country’s progress and the well-being of each of our citizens.

Once again, congratulations on the Day of the Georgian Defense Forces and on the 35th anniversary!

May God protect our country, and may God protect each of you!” the Prime Minister said.
