Tazo Datunashvili: The Price Review Commission is a shameful clown show, authored by Irakli Kobakhidze  -I expect his political responsibility to be held, because for several months he has been brazenly misleading the entire country

The activities of the Price Review Commission, even by ‘Georgian Dream’ standards, are a disgraceful failure and a dirty propaganda performance, through which the population of Georgia has been mocked — the very population that is struggling the most and working every day just to earn their daily bread,” said Tazo Datunashvili, a member of “Lelo – Strong Georgia,” today.

According to Datunashvili, the main problem with high prices on products is not the markup. He says the solution is to reduce value-added tax on basic food products and to lower income tax, and to temporarily abolish excise tax on products such as fuel.

“The Price Review Commission is a shameful clown show, authored by Irakli Kobakhidze. Kobakhidze is responsible for the fact that this circus performance has completely failed both in propaganda terms and in reality.

I expect that Irakli Kobakhidze will face political responsibility, given that for several months he has been brazenly lying to the entire country that he and his government supposedly have some influence over prices. The reality is clearly visible in the numbers. Prices have increased on everything: fuel has gone up by more than 1 lari, electricity has become 30 tetri more expensive, food inflation in March was 7.5%, and the forecast for April is much worse, because from April 1 both fuel and electricity prices increased.

At the end of the commission’s work, these people are being told by Irakli Kobakhidze that half a kilogram of meat supposedly costs 10 lari, and eggs cost 4.60 lari.

This is the shameful result of the commission, which we already knew would have no real outcome,” said Tazo Datunashvili.
