“You spoke a lot about your prime minister as well, but there is no point even talking about fugitive Gakharia, who is obsessed with leader worship in this one-man party. A man who has become an ordinary scholarship recipient,” said the Chair of Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee, Archil Gorduladze, during a plenary session in the format of a “free tribune.”
He criticized the party “For Georgia” and called its members “shameless.”
“In one case, Ms. Salome Zurabishvili is a scholarship recipient of one institution, in another case agent Gakharia is a scholarship recipient of another institution, and you are all subordinated to leaders dependent on scholarships, without even having the right to voice a different opinion. You come here and speak flat, nonsensical things. First, you should have some dignity, and only then dare to stand at the podium and speak, but what can we say to people who have completely lost their sense of shame?” Gorduladze stated.
According to him, the “free tribune” should not be used for “spreading shamelessness.”
“You cannot make vile, shameless statements devoid of any dignity just to satisfy your political goals. For example, making statements about children suffering from Duchenne disease as if we had ever said that extending their lives was associated with unnecessary expenses and used that as an argument. A greater example of vileness and shamelessness is simply impossible, but only a ‘Gakharia-style National Movement’ could do such a thing. We empathize with every person suffering from illnesses, especially children and their parents. Because we have a high sense of responsibility, the Ministry of Health is doing everything possible to solve their problems,” Gorduladze said.
He also addressed one of the “widely discussed issues” raised by the “For Georgia” party concerning a million-lari vehicle.
According to Gorduladze, it is a state-owned specialized vehicle used in cases of risk, including during visits by high-ranking officials.
“If your leader Gakharia considers winking and driving around in a Škoda to be something admirable, then the condition of the agent who signed off on all this must really be quite something,” Gorduladze stated.
In addition, Archil Gorduladze spoke about relations with the European Union.
“They could not provide even a single example when I asked them about attacks on the EU or German ambassador. Do you know why? Because such a thing simply does not exist. When we raise our voices against attempts to blackmail and pressure the Georgian population, against the disregard for the Vienna Convention and such a fundamental democratic principle as the rule of law, tell me one country where an ambassador attends a court hearing? Is there even one such country? Only Georgia. Is this pressure on an independent judiciary? Of course it is. In Georgia, a particular judge was asked to justify his decision, and afterward was punished and excluded from a visit. How can anyone claim that our European integration process has stopped because of us, cite the prime minister’s statement, and then ignore the EU ambassador’s letter confirming that negotiations from the EU side had been halted six months before that statement? This happened because of steps taken to protect sovereignty, such as transparency of foreign funding and banning LGBT propaganda in our schools and kindergartens. How can something that was already stopped be stopped again? Only a ‘Gakharia-style National,’ others united in the ‘National Movement,’ and their foreign patrons could understand such logic. Then they try to build a political show around all of this,” Gorduladze stated.
According to him, the government has never taken steps incompatible with the European Union.
“‘You are taking steps incompatible with EU laws’ - we have never spoken against the EU or European countries in general. We have always responded and will continue to respond to representatives of the bureaucracy. Does this bureaucracy perhaps have a future where LGBT propaganda and same-sex marriage can be legalized in our schools and kindergartens?” Gorduladze said.
He also commented on rising fuel prices, stating that blaming the government for the issue is absurd.
“This is either political stupidity and ignorance of the issue, or simply immorality aimed at scoring political points among a certain part of society,” Gorduladze stated.
