Georgian Dream Secretary General and Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has addressed the German people with what he called a “condolence letter” regarding the German city of Saarbrücken’s decision to sever all official ties with Tbilisi. He stated that, due to decisions made by a German bureaucracy “obedient to the deep state,” even historical friendship is becoming a subject of political speculation.
According to him, it is especially unfortunate that, due to unilateral political considerations, cultural and partnership ties built over decades are being damaged.
Kaladze writes that, because of leaders and politicians acting under informal oligarchic influence, Germany is practically “stuck in a swamp” and facing major challenges. At the same time, German bureaucrats still find time to assess the political situation in Georgia and take “decisive measures.”
“Condolence letter to the German people:
Despite the long-standing friendship and mutual respect between the peoples of Georgia and Germany, unfortunately, due to decisions of the German bureaucracy obedient to the ‘deep state,’ even historical friendship becomes a subject of political speculation.
It is especially unfortunate that, due to unilateral political considerations, the cultural and partnership ties built over decades are being damaged.
It is unbelievable that today, when a full-scale military conflict is ongoing on the European continent, Germany - due to leaders and politicians acting under informal oligarchic influence - is practically stuck in a swamp and facing major challenges (economic crisis, dramatically rising crime, demographic problems, migration-related crisis, social tension, and a values crisis), while German bureaucrats still find time to assess the political situation in Georgia and take “decisive measures,” which is also reflected in the fact that the German city of Saarbrücken is cutting all relations with Tbilisi, its sister city of more than 50 years…
If they are truly concerned about the political situation in European countries, instead of making such absurd decisions they should focus on the grave incident in Copenhagen, Denmark, where peaceful protesters were first beaten with batons and then dogs were used against them…
All of the above perhaps best reflects the absurd and, at the same time, tragic situation in which the German population finds itself under the current bureaucracy - a bureaucracy that serves not the German people, but the “deep state.” Yet we are talking about a rational German nation and a country known for its high political culture and respect for European values.
That is why questions are increasingly being raised in German society about whether the current bureaucratic governance truly serves the interests and needs of the German people.
We believe that German society has enough wisdom and strength to maintain independent thinking, defend its national interests, and bring to power a political force that will address Germany’s real problems and will be guided by the will of the German people.”
The statement was published by Kaladze on social media.
For context, after 51 years of city partnership, the German city of Saarbrücken is reportedly planning to cut all official ties with Tbilisi, according to Saarbruecken Zeitung. The publication reports that a resolution proposed by the mayor’s office will be presented to the city council today. The mayor is recommending the suspension of all contacts with the twin city of Tbilisi until further notice. The report says this radical step is based on political developments in Georgia.
