Peter Fischer on Kakha Kaladze's "letter of condolence" - You can't enter the EU like this, you really can't, you can take this advice from me, as the ambassador of an EU member state

You can't join the EU like this, you really can't. You can take this advice from me, as an ambassador of an EU member state, - this is how the German Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, in an interview with TV Pirveli, responded to the statement of the Mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, regarding Germany.

As for the information spread by the German media that after 51 years of city partnership, the German city of Saarbrücken plans to sever all official ties with Tbilisi, Fischer notes that "this decision has not yet been made, it has only been announced."

“This is a decision of the city of Saarbrücken, this city has its own mayor, who is elected through democratic elections. I understand that the mayor of Saarbrücken has a German government that is concerned about the democratic backsliding, about the fact that the Georgian government is taking the country away from the European Union. This letter of condolence, which says how things are bad in Germany, which is run by the “deep state”, by informal oligarchs, the fact that such narratives come from such circles in Georgia, is another sign that the government is taking Georgia away from the European Union. The Prime Minister also published an open letter to the leaders of the European Union, which is exactly the same content, that “we Georgians are real Europeans, and you are all bad and are going backwards.”

You can’t enter the European Union like this, you really can’t. You can take this advice from me as an ambassador to the EU member states. I don't see any steps forward, I see steps in the opposite direction, away from the EU. This is causing concern and disappointment in the German government. Georgia has cut itself off from Ukraine and Moldova on the common path to the EU. We would like these three states to move forward together as quickly as possible, but this is not happening," Peter Fischer told TV Pirveli, the translation of which was released by the aforementioned TV company.

For information, after 51 years of city partnership, the German city of Saarbrücken plans to sever all official ties with the Georgian capital of Tbilisi, the Saarbruecken Zeitung reports.

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze sent a “letter of condolence” to the German people regarding the city of Saarbrücken’s severance of all official ties with Tbilisi. He states that due to the decisions of the German bureaucracy, which is subservient to the “deep state,” even historical friendship is becoming a subject of political speculation.”
