Nika Gvaramia: Tomorrow, we are gathering at the First Building of the University and marching to Rustaveli Avenue - before that, we will try to bring in equipment, set up a stage, and hold a full-scale rally, which is our right

“We do not intend to obey anything that contradicts the requirements of the law and Georgia’s national interests. Tomorrow at 7:00 PM, we are gathering at the First Building of the University and then marching to Rustaveli Avenue. Before that, we will try to bring in equipment, install a stage and screens, and hold a full-scale rally, which we have every right to do,” said one of the leaders of the “Opposition Alliance,” Nika Gvaramia, during a briefing held on behalf of the alliance.

Nika Gvaramia called on the authorities to refrain from any incidents, stating that their “protest is peaceful and based on constitutional rights.”

“Yesterday, information spread that Rustaveli Avenue would be empty after Chanturia Street. There would be nothing there. We are requesting exactly this area, which the Ministry of Internal Affairs itself stated would be blocked off and empty. This area belongs to the citizens; it is the place for expressing protest in Tbilisi - historically, Rustaveli Avenue has been the central protest location.

On May 26, we plan to take the protest to a new stage with a very large number of people, continuing the protest against the regime through mass participation.

Our position is clear: we are not changing the planned route, which has been known to both the authorities and the public for already two months. Just because someone, out of fear or for reasons they consider expedient, wants to force us and the citizens of Georgia to change our plans, does not mean these plans will change. Our demand is based on the Constitution, and we will fully exercise our rights.

As for the unconstitutional decisions and restrictions imposed by Ivanishvili’s regime, we do not intend to submit to anything that contradicts the law and Georgia’s national interests.

Tomorrow at 7:00 PM, we are gathering at the First Building of the University and then marching to Rustaveli Avenue. Before that, we will do everything possible to bring in equipment, install a stage and screens, and hold a full-scale rally, which we are entitled to do.

I call on the ‘authorities’ to refrain from any incidents. Among those currently here is a high-ranking delegation from the United States, which is meeting both with the opposition and with the self-proclaimed authorities. The ongoing processes are under intense scrutiny both inside and outside Georgia. Everyone should refrain from illegal actions - every unlawful act will have consequences. Everyone must avoid any kind of escalation. Our protest is peaceful and grounded in constitutional rights,” Nika Gvaramia stated.
