Leader of the “Coalition for Change” Nika Gvaramia said that he expects a large turnout at the planned May 26 rally in Tbilisi, claiming it will exceed the number of people attending events in Yerevan related to the visit of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Speaking to journalists regarding the upcoming protest, Gvaramia said the opposition demonstration will be significantly large and that any attempts to obstruct it will be counterproductive.
“Tomorrow we will stand in Tbilisi in greater numbers than the Armenians will welcome Rubio in Yerevan, I am certain of that. I am not emphasizing ethnicity, I am speaking about citizens, of course,” Gvaramia said.
He added that public resistance only strengthens mobilization and reiterated that the current government must be replaced.
“The more resistance there is, the more counter-resistance there is. Tomorrow there will be many people, and obstruction will not work - it will, on the contrary, be more stimulating. Tomorrow we will stand in Tbilisi in greater numbers than the Armenians will welcome Rubio in Yerevan, I am certain of that. I am not emphasizing ethnicity, I am speaking about citizens, of course. From here we will also speak to Rubio; from there he will see us more than the Georgian government is allowing our nation to be seen. But the main thing is that we see each other as Georgians - those present, those watching on screens, political prisoners, and especially emigrants. They are always with us invisibly at demonstrations and rallies. We must collectively make several decisions and then implement them - not today, not tomorrow, but over time. This government must go. Otherwise, there will always be visits in Yerevan and never in Tbilisi,” he said.
