Tina Bokuchava - Ivanishvili's regime is leading us into a reincarnated version of the Soviet Union, Putin's empire - it is our duty to unite the centers of protest, strengthen them, and turn them into a common national protest

Ivanishvili’s regime is leading us to a reincarnated version of the Soviet Union, or Putin’s empire, so I am sure that even people who are not here today feel this threat and join the spirit of this rally because Georgia’s independence is precious to everyone, - Tina Bokuchava, the chairwoman of the National Movement said at TSU, where citizens are gathering and preparing for the protest march.

According to Bokuchava, the one-time gathering at today’s rally is important so that the public inside the country and partners outside the country can see that the protest has not gone anywhere, however, according to the opposition politician, daily rallies are also important so that the center of the protest is maintained.

“I think that many people realize that Georgia’s independence, unfortunately, is still in danger after 35 years because today the country is ruled by a regime that encroaches on independence, freedom, and the great achievements that previous generations brought.

On May 26, after secession from the Soviet Union, Georgia’s independence was restored, and now, practically, Ivanishvili’s regime is leading us into a reincarnated version of the Soviet Union, that is, into Putin’s empire. Therefore, I am sure that even those people who are not here today feel this threat and join the spirit of this rally because Georgia’s independence is precious to everyone.

Representatives of this regime cannot be part of this great celebration because they themselves are guilty of encroaching on independence.

As for the continuation of these rallies, of course, gathering today on such an important date is important for our voices to be heard. They should be heard both inside and outside the country, but it is also important that democratic political forces are able to mobilize the maximum energy of the people in order to give this protest a continuous character.

People are standing on Rustaveli Street every day to maintain the center of protest. I saw people who came here from the region, but there are centers of protest in different parts of Georgia and not only in Tbilisi, which confirms that the protest exists throughout the country. It is simply our duty, as politicians, to unite these centers of protest, strengthen them and turn them into a common national protest in order to remove the regime that has seized power today," said Tina Bokuchava.
