“The facts are that for decades the Federal Republic of Germany has been a major and leading supporter of the Georgian Defense Forces - everything else is disinformation,” the German Embassy said in a written response sent to InterpressNews, commenting on Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili’s statement that “the German Ambassador himself probably would not have wished to attend the Independence Day event, because he administers the oath of hatred squads.”
“As for the statement by the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, we recommend checking the facts,” the letter says.
In response to InterpressNews’ question, the German Embassy did not specify whether the German Ambassador attended the Independence Day event and, if not, what caused that decision.
At the same time, the Embassy’s statement clearly notes that Germany aims to continue friendly cooperation with Georgia.
“The German Embassy does not participate in all domestic discussions in Georgia. As for the statement by the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, we recommend checking the facts. And the facts are that for decades the Federal Republic of Germany has been a major and leading supporter of the Georgian Defense Forces.
This can easily be verified with the Ministry of Defense of Georgia or with the Minister of Defense of Georgia.
Germany aims to continue this friendly cooperation.
Everything else is disinformation!” the German Embassy’s statement reads.
According to available information, German Ambassador Peter Fischer did not attend the event dedicated to Georgia’s Independence Day.
Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili stated that invitations had been sent to everyone.
