Kaja Kallas - It is in the interest of European security that Russian troops are not in Georgia and Moldova

The European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, has said that if negotiations with Russia on Ukraine begin, the bloc will raise, among other issues, the withdrawal of Russian troops from Georgia and Moldova.

In Cyprus, where an informal meeting of foreign ministers is taking place, when asked by a journalist what the most important points of the substantive part would be in the event of negotiations, Kallas replied:

“I put forward this document back in February, where I listed everything I could think of - starting with Russia’s respect for international agreements by which Russia has undertaken not to attack its neighbors and to respect their sovereignty. However, of course, there are other issues that reflect the concessions that were asked from Ukraine - for example, regarding the military limitations. If this is reflected in the agreement, certain obligations should also apply to Russia. Of course, there are also issues of wider concern. If we think about the presence of Russian troops in countries such as Georgia and Moldova, it is in the European security interest that these troops are not there and do not meddling with elections in different countries,” Kallas said.
