As you know, the Georgian delegation is a partner of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and we are participating in this event in order to further bring the parliamentary dimensions of Georgia and NATO closer together, - stated the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze, who is attending the spring session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Vilnius together with the permanent delegation of the Georgian Parliament.
According to Nikoloz Samkharadze, the main issues discussed at the session included the ongoing hybrid and conventional military threats with Russia, as well as the issue of strengthening security on NATO's eastern flank.
According to him, the NATO Secretary General spoke about future plans, including the issue of spending up to 5% of GDP on defense.
“The Georgian parliamentary delegation is participating in the spring session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Vilnius. This session began 2 days ago and ends today. The main issues to be discussed at the session are: hybrid and conventional military threats emanating from Russia, as well as Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the extension of the period of compulsory military service in NATO member states, as well as greater investments in military technologies and innovations, and in general, strengthening security on NATO’s eastern flank.
We also heard a speech today by the NATO Deputy Secretary General, who spoke about plans, including spending up to 5% of GDP on defense, and also emphasized that Ukraine has become a laboratory for military innovations and new technologies, therefore, Ukraine today has one of the most powerful military units, and NATO must draw conclusions from this struggle.
