Mamuka Mdinaradze on the so-called espionage case - Two days ago, the State Security Service arrested only those people who, despite warnings, did not stop certain movements in the mentioned direction even after previous arrests

Today, the Georgian state, Georgian special services, Georgian law enforcement officers and the security system are so strong that they can carry out unprecedented measures for our country - to expose real spy networks and arrest their members, - said Mamuka Mdinaradze, Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, State Minister for Coordination of Law Enforcement Agencies.

As he noted, one of the two people arrested by the State Security Service on charges of espionage is accused of obtaining intelligence information in favor of two different states. According to him, the second defendant is being tried for espionage and a kind of leadership of the spy network, who distributed funds and tasks to the network's representatives.

"I would like to thank the State Security Service and its Counterintelligence Department for the very successful counterintelligence activities carried out over the past few days. As you know, one of the two people arrested by the State Security Service on charges of espionage is accused of obtaining intelligence information for the benefit of two different states. The second defendant is being investigated for espionage and a kind of leadership of the spy network, who distributed funds and tasks to representatives of the network. We must emphasize that two days ago the State Security Service arrested only those people who, despite warnings, did not stop certain movements in the mentioned direction even after previous arrests. Hopefully, in this case, the correct conclusions will be drawn by the relevant services or specific individuals.

Everyone should know that today the Georgian state, Georgian special services, Georgian law enforcement officers and the security system are so strong that they can carry out unprecedented measures for our country - exposing real spy networks and detaining their members, which belongs to the category of operational and investigative measures that are very difficult for much stronger and larger states,” Mamuka Mdinaradze noted.

However, when asked by journalists whether the individuals arrested on charges of espionage represented the intelligence services of Russia, Poland, Iran and France and whether he would confirm this information, Mdinaradze replied: “I cannot confirm this because Poland is not involved in anything.”
