7 defendants from the October 4 events are being offered plea agreements — they will be released from the courtroom once the court approves the agreements

In connection with the events that took place on October 4 near the Orbeliani Presidential Residence, the prosecution is offering plea agreements to seven individuals detained in one episode of the case.

As the prosecutor in the case, Lasha Tsqvitaria, explained to journalists, these individuals admitted guilt and expressed remorse, which is why plea agreements are being concluded with them.

Once the court approves the agreements reached between the parties in the coming days, the defendants will be released directly from the courtroom.

The prosecution is offering them plea agreements with a three-year suspended sentence.

The following individuals detained in this episode will be released:

  • Alexander Khabeishvili
  • Beka Kelekhashvili
  • Giorgi Mumladze
  • Mamuka Labuchidze
  • Guriel Kardava
  • Avtandil Surmanidze
  • Temur Kurtsikidze

According to the prosecutor, Lasha Tsqvitaria, several other defendants in the case have also applied to the state prosecution requesting plea agreements. He said these requests will also be granted, and defense lawyers will be informed gradually.

He noted that in the “attempted seizure of the presidential residence” case, the examination of evidence by both the prosecution and defense has been completed, and the hearing has moved to the closing arguments stage.

Additionally, out of 12 defendants in this case, five initially requested plea agreements, and two more submitted similar requests before the start of the hearing. As a result, seven out of twelve defendants have now admitted guilt and expressed remorse.

The state prosecution has agreed to conclude plea agreements with all seven individuals, under suspended sentences. They are expected to be released from the courtroom soon.

The plea agreement term is set at three years of probation.

The defendants admitted and expressed remorse for the actions they were charged with. The alleged criminal acts are documented in video materials, which, according to the prosecution, confirm their participation in activities carried out near the presidential residence.

The prosecutor stated that the admissions were made at the factual level during the hearing, and there was no need for additional testimony, as the factual circumstances are already confirmed by evidence examined in court.

He also noted that three additional criminal cases related to the matter are being heard separately in court. In those cases, some defendants have already requested plea agreements, and part of these requests has been approved. Further notifications to defense lawyers will follow at upcoming hearings.

At the next hearing, a procedural motion will be filed to separate the case into a distinct proceeding for the seven defendants. The case will be assigned to another judge to approve the plea agreements. This procedural step may take some time, but is expected to be completed within the coming week.
