The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Georgia, Seyed Ali Moujani, has responded to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio's remarks concerning Georgia, stating that "the United States should correct its view of the world."
"I think America should correct its view of the world. A country that seeks to destroy other civilizations should first correct itself," Moujani wrote on Facebook.
As a reminder, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently expressed hope that the United States would see a change in Georgia's current trajectory.
Specifically, Rubio was responding in Congress to a question from Congressman Joe Wilson, who accused Georgian Dream of supporting Iran and China and asked what should be done to address the "rapid radicalization" allegedly being promoted by the Georgian Dream government in Georgia.
The U.S. Secretary of State told the congressman that his concerns were "valid" and reflected Washington's existing concerns. However, Rubio added that the Georgian government had taken certain steps that signaled to Washington a desire to improve relations.
According to Rubio, the United States presented a set of expectations to Georgian Dream and received "some positive responses" in return. The Secretary of State expressed hope that Washington would see a change in Georgia's current trajectory.
Rubio also stated that the Georgian authorities themselves had asked what would be necessary to achieve better relations with the United States, to which Washington provided an answer. He expressed hope that progress would be made on that basis and that the United States would be able to influence not only the trajectory of relations with Georgia but also changes in the Georgian government's behavior.
