Kakha Kaladze: Relations must be based on justice - the United States must restore justice and correct the decisions made against Georgia by the Biden administration

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze stated that relations between Georgia and the United States must be grounded in fairness and mutual respect, adding that Washington should correct past decisions made under the Biden administration.

Responding to a question regarding recent statements by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Kaladze said Georgia is ready to begin relations with the United States “from a new page.”

“When the U.S. delegation was in Georgia, the Prime Minister spoke very openly. You know our team’s position - there is nothing to hide, and we speak about it openly.

We are ready to start relations from a new page with a proper roadmap. We have made statements about this many times. Relations must be based on justice. And since we are talking about justice, the United States must restore justice and correct the decisions made against Georgia by the Biden administration - everything was very bad and heavy, because it was based on lies and falsehoods.

The Biden administration made incorrect decisions regarding Georgia - only lies and falsehoods. The current administration under President Trump has the opportunity to correct those wrong decisions made about Georgia,” Kaladze said.

He emphasized that rebuilding relations should be based on fairness as a core principle.

“The most important thing is that relations are based on justice, which is a fundamental principle.”

As a reminder, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently told Congress that he hopes the United States will see a change in Georgia’s current trajectory.

He said the Georgian government had taken some steps signaling interest in improving relations, and that Washington had presented conditions for progress, receiving “some positive responses.” Rubio expressed hope that bilateral relations could improve and that changes would be seen both in the trajectory of relations and in the Georgian government’s behavior.
