Zakhzo Gvishiani: Work and communication with pharmaceutical companies regarding treatment options for Duchenne muscular dystrophy will continue, and that a final decision on two medications is expected to be made in about two months

Zakro Gvishiani, a father of a child with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, says that a final decision regarding two medications is expected to be made in approximately two months following ongoing consultations with pharmaceutical companies.

Speaking to journalists after a meeting with Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Gvishiani said a permanent working group will be established to continue work on securing treatment options for patients.

He emphasized that the process will involve detailed negotiations with pharmaceutical companies and that the final decision will be based on obtaining the “best possible conditions” for children and their medical needs.

“Work and communication with pharmaceutical companies will continue, but there are still specific issues to be addressed. Ultimately, a final decision regarding two medications will be made in about two months,” Gvishiani said.

According to him, the decision will concern two out of four candidate medications, while the names of the drugs are not being disclosed at this stage due to the ongoing negotiation process.
