The Ministry of Internal Affairs calls the information spread in the media that several police officers involved in the beating of two citizens in Gori have crossed the state border of Georgia “false and unverified”.
As the agency explains in a statement, “none of the law enforcement officers present at the scene of the incident in Gori has left the country”.
“We would like to respond to the false and unverified information broadcast on the TV company Formula that several police officers involved in the incident in Gori have crossed the state border of Georgia and are abroad.
We categorically state that none of the law enforcement officers present at the scene of the incident in Gori has left the country.
It is also noteworthy that the police officer mentioned in the program, Shota Maruashvili, was not at the scene of the incident in Gori during or after it, while another law enforcement officer mentioned in the program, Besik Kvrivishvili, appeared at the scene after the incident.
We would also like to note that the dissemination of such false and unverified information by media outlets only serves to deliberately discredit the agency and each police officer.
We once again call on media outlets and all interested parties to verify the factual circumstances with the relevant agency before disseminating information, so that the public is provided with accurate and verified information,” reads the statement.
